I am Ms. Vijaya, a farmer from the serene village of Thalampatti in the Thirumayam block of Pudukkottai District. As a member of the Sri Karuppar Ulavar Jeevidam, I have always been passionate about community-driven farming. Alongside nine dedicated farmers, we strive to sustain our livelihoods through agriculture.
Despite our dedication, we faced significant challenges due to a lack of specialized training, resulting in low vegetable yields. The need for intervention and capacity-building was evident.
The Thirumayam Vayalaga Jeevidam Farmers Producer Company Limited, promoted by the DHAN Foundation, recognized our plight and provided us with essential training and workshops. These sessions focused on traditional vegetable seed production and sustainable farming practices. Eager to improve, I actively participated in these training sessions, learning valuable techniques for seed cultivation and sustainable agriculture.
Armed with new knowledge, I began my journey in seed production. With the support of the Thirumayam Vayalaga Jeevidam FPO, I received various traditional vegetable seeds and cultivated them on my land. Through meticulous care, I harvested a bountiful crop and produced high-quality seeds for future cultivation.
The FPO purchased my seeds and distributed them to other farmers in the Thirumayam Block. My success inspired fellow farmers to embrace collective seed production initiatives. From a single cultivation cycle, I generated an additional income of Rs. 10,000/-.
