Keerapalayam Neithal Jeevidam 10K Farmers Producer Company Limited recently conducted an intensive training session focused on enhancing productivity in blackgram cultivation. With 35 local farmers in attendance, the training provided valuable insights and hands-on knowledge aimed at improving yields and overall crop health. The session was led by experienced officials from the Department of Agriculture, who shared critical expertise tailored to the unique challenges of blackgram farming in the region.
Key Training Highlights
Seed Selection: Farmers learnt about choosing high-quality blackgram seeds, emphasizing traits like resistance to pests and diseases, and adaptability to local growing conditions. By selecting superior seeds, farmers can increase the likelihood of healthy crop growth and maximize yield potential
Seed Treatment
This segment focused on pre-sowing treatments essential for preventing seed-borne diseases and enhancing germination rates. The trainers demonstrated effective seed treatment methods, including the use of bio-fertilizers and organic fungicides, to ensure robust and resilient seedling growth.
Seed Production Technologies
Participants were introduced to modern seed production techniques which can reduce dependency of corporates & cost saving leading to sustainability. Techniques covered included spacing, irrigation schedules, pest and disease management, and nutrient application in seed production. Farmers were encouraged to adopt these practices to not only boost their productivity but also contribute to local seed security.
The training concluded with a Q&A session, where farmers were able to clarify their doubts and discuss practical solutions to the challenges they face in blackgram cultivation.
