On 16th November 2024, students of the Post Graduate Diploma in Development Management (PDM) from The DHAN Academy (TDA) undertook a field-exposure visit to Mudukulathur and Thiruppulani to gain firsthand insights into FPO-led enterprises. The visit was jointly organized by the Advanced Center for Enabling Social Enterprise (ACESE) and TDA.
i) Morning Session: Students visited the Chilli Processing Unit operated by Mudukulathur Kalanjia Jeevidam Farmers Producer Company Limited. They learned about value addition, business operations, and how the unit supports local farmers through better market access and income generation.
ii) Afternoon Session: The group interacted with PPG members and shareholders of Thiruppulani Vayalaga Jeevidam Farmers Producer Company Limited, who showcased their handcrafted products made from palm leaves. Students witnessed how these eco-friendly crafts contribute to women's livelihood and the preservation of traditional skills.
The exposure visit provided valuable learning on survival and sustainability of grassroots enterprises, collective farming models, and sustainable rural livelihoods driven by FPOs.
