For centuries, Indian rural households sustained themselves through Nutrition gardens—also called thottam, mitti baari, or angadi thottam—tucked into backyards or front yards. These vibrant plots of greens, vegetables, herbs, and fruits were nurtured mostly by women and ensured a continuous supply of fresh, chemical-free produce.

Athoor Kalanjia Jeevidam 10K Farmers Producer Company Limited, promoted by Jeevidam Limited with support from SFAC under the Central Sector Scheme, has over 1,000 shareholders actively engaged in aggregating and marketing maize, pepper, and coconut. The FPO ensures fair prices to its members and supplies to institutional buyers, while also meeting local needs by marketing paddy rice, groceries, and oils. By December 2024, it achieved a turnover of ₹1 crore for the FY 2024–25. Its success highlights the strength of collective farming and farmer-led enterprises.
