The groundnut oil enterprise has emerged as a strong example of value addition within the Jeevidam programme, led by the Ponnamaravathy Kalanjia Jeevidam FPCL, which operates a dedicated oil unit as a core business activity. With groundnut identified as a key crop across Ponnamaravathy, Parangipettai, and Sirukaveripakkam, the initiative demonstrates how local produce can be transformed into reliable, member-centric enterprises.
During December 2025, the focus remained on strengthening market access and member benefits, with steady movement of groundnut oil and oil cake to households and livestock owners. The oil cake, a vital by-product, played a crucial role in supporting members’ dairy and livestock needs, reinforcing the circular economy approach adopted by the FPO. Similar oil-based business activity was also observed in locations such as Mudukulathur, reflecting growing demand for locally processed, trusted products.
A key highlight of the month was the FPO’s innovative distribution strategy aimed at reducing last-mile costs for members. By leveraging public and regional transport, oil cake was delivered directly to villages at minimal cost, significantly improving accessibility. In cluster-level bulk distributions, collective planning helped members save substantially on transport expenses, proving that smart logistics can directly translate into member savings.
Demand for groundnut oil and oil cake was systematically collected during PPG group meetings, ensuring that business decisions remained firmly rooted in member needs. The products were also actively promoted through community events, helping increase visibility and trust in FPO-branded essentials.
While distance between production units and member villages continues to pose logistical challenges, the FPO is responding with practical, low-cost solutions that prioritise member convenience and financial discipline. Moving forward, the enterprise aims to further strengthen demand-led distribution and deepen member engagement, reinforcing the groundnut oil business as a dependable income stream and a valuable service for Jeevidam households.
